Ironman 2010

On the last weekend in March 2010, 7 Hawkesbury Triathletes gathered in Port Macquarie for the Ironman Triathlon. Many more travelled to support them. It was a weekend that had to be experienced to properly appreciate what it is all about.
The day dawned with perfect conditions a flat Hastings river and 1500 nervous men and women in wetsuits The race started before the cannon and the journey began.  Most had a great swim with everyone’s times better than expected in particular John Miller who was budgeting for 1hour 30 mins and smoked it in 1 hour and 7. Lars was faster than anyone in just 54 min.
Onto the bike and those who got on early were rewarded as around 12:30 the wind started to pick up and played havoc with the second half of the field.  Everyone put in solid bike times and everyone was pretty happy with their efforts.
The run leg was conducted in warm conditions and with the crowd gathering at the finishing chute Greg Burford was the first man home in a great time.  Benny Gillespe soon to be married had a great run leg and a sub 4 hour marathon in an Ironman is something to be marvelled at, finished next.  Stuart Borwick finished as the fastest Stuart competing, beating 5 other Stuarts to the finish line, also had a great race.  Darren Farlow overcame adversity as his seat broke halfway through the bike leg and well he did finish with a smile on his face! Considering Daz had an injury which prevented him running most of this year his time was most impressive.  John Miller trained the house down for this race and it showed with a PB for the event and a very impressive swim and run leg.  Tania Farlow - well what can we say - SHE IS BACK!!.  Lars Kopelhuber is the story of the race.  This man is one of the bravest athletes I have come across. Hurting after the bike Lars pushed himself physically and mentally to the limit and finished. Unbelievable.

To all of those who competed, Officiated and cheered.  Well done.
